Can't get enough of this glorious combination. For the third week I bought the same flowers at the market. Only this time I added five pink peonies. Next week I will choose something completely different.

This week no photo of my marketflowers because I bought exactly the same bouquet as last saturday. On my way home I was passing one of my wish-to-live-there locations. Its called Herenmarkt . Huge chestnut trees (in bloom) in the middle and attractive houses around. The owners all seem to have green fingers. Almost every frontdoor is surrounded by green plants.

Deze particuliere collectie van professor Gerardus Vrolik (1775-1859) en zijn zoon professor Willem Vrolik (1801-1863) omvat anatomische, pathologisch-anatomische, zoologische en teratologische preparaten. Na de dood van Willem Vrolik dreigde zijn collectie te worden verkocht. Een commissie uit de Amsterdamse burgerij wist haar in 1869 integraal te verwerven, en droeg haar over aan de gemeente. De collectie ligt aan de basis van het omvangrijkere Museum Vrolik dat wordt beheerd door het AMC.
In opdracht van het AMC heeft Hans van den Bogaard een selectie uit de collectie gefotografeerd die speciaal voor de tentoonstelling is afgedrukt en samen met enkele originele preparaten wordt getoond.

De gefotografeerde preparaten maken je niet echt vrolijk. De manier waarop Hans van den Bogaard ze heeft gefotografeerd wel. Nou ja, vrolijk. De foto's maken dat je er op een andere manier naar gaat kijken. Van den Bogaard was vrij in wat en hoe hij de collectie in beeld wilde brengen. Het resultaat is heel bijzonder.De tentoonstelling in het FOAM is fascinerend en indrukwekkend.

Tomorrow May 4th is our national remembrance-day. We honour and remember all people that lost their lives in war.

Tomorrow is also the day that my dear friend Geja was born, fiftytwo years ago.

She died in 2006, fortynine years old. I still think of her every single day.

This friday, on the 30st of April ,our queen Beatrix will celebrate her birthday. This day is not her own birthday but was the birthday of her mother, the late queen Juliana, who was born in 1909 and died in 2004.

Already the people in Amsterdam are getting orange fever. flowers at the market, party gear, everything in our national colour orange. Getting ready for the biggest party of the year.

So cute, this little mouse and how beautifully painted by Henk Helmantel, a Dutch painter.

However, as we speak, I hear a few of these creatures tiptoe through my kitchen. It's really hard to get rid of them in these old Amsterdam canalhouses. Sigh.

I'm happy with my Ikea Tral-lamp. A modest, classy design. I spotted it at remodelista on sunday and decided to take the train today, monday, to Ikea Haarlem.

'saturday afternoon

Spent this sunny saturday afternoon taking a tramride to KNSM Island. Passing Amsterdam ZOO, ARTIS, you can see this building. Built in a beautiful un-Dutch style.

At Pol's Potten I spotted this Chinese glass jar for preserving food and this wanahave cookbook, La Cucina d'Abruzzo. Italian food, Dutch writer.

Lots of spring on the way to the market, at the market, on the way home and finally into the home. Apple-blossom and rhododendron at the exquisit little flowershop Pompon, a plant with tiny white flowers to welcome you, at the frontdoor and ofcourse one of my alltime favourites, Lathyrus Odoratus

How can you not love dogs

Dille & Kamille

Op zoek naar basale stoeltjes? Ik zag deze en nog een aantal andere, waaronder ongelakte klassieke Thonetstoeltjes, bij Dille & Kamille. Een fijne winkel die ik nooit voorbijloop wanneer ik een vestiging tegenkom. Ook mooie pannen van gietaluminium, in eigen beheer gefabriceerd in Italië.

Helaas is er nog steeds geen vestiging in Amsterdam.

De Lage Oorsprong

De zaterdag voor Pasen werd tuin De Lage Oorsprong in Oosterbeek weer opengesteld voor publiek. We gingen erheen tussen twee koude buien door. De eerste bezoekers van het seizoen en de enigen op dat moment. De geplande oranjerie, parkeerplaats en openlucht-theater zijn om bureaucratische redenen vertraagd. Wel zijn er twee keurige (rolstoelvriendelijke) toiletten gerealiseerd. Door de lange koude winter en een voorjaar dat maar niet op gang wil komen is het leven in de tuin twee a drie weken later dan anders. Even geduld dus. Over een maand zal de beleving weer heel anders zijn. Behalve de reguliere bezoekers

vinden steeds meer mensen de weg naar de tuin om daar hun speciale gelegenheden te vieren. met een lunch, high tea of diner. Ik ga maar eens dromen over een feestelijke lunch onder een rijk begroeide berceau ergens in de zomer.

Bernard, a hidden story

Can you read this face? The mystery around Bernhard, late prince of de Netherlands, husband of our late queen Juliana, is unraveled by one of my favourite writers, Annejet van der Zijl. With great integrity, feel for history and a wonderful writingstyle, it took her five years to complete this interesting book. To be honest the prince didn't interest me very much but his history did. The story of Bernhard is both a personal story as a historical one. It revives an episode in (German) history and changes your look on certain choises that the prince made. Although his behaviour was not totaly his fault, his character doesn't win you over. Regards to our queen Beatrix for becoming the woman she is despite of her rather immoral father.

thinking of easter

Thinking of easter, I chose lilac and pink. So called pink parrot tulips, lilac hyacinth and mixed, wonderful scented, lathyrus. Three curly willow branches for the finishing touch.

something really funny for the weekend

Today had every right to be called the first day of spring. The weather was beautiful. Amsterdam was celebrating springtime. Lots of people in the streets and on the water of the canals.

Next week promises springtime temperatures. Bring it on ! We're ready as can be.

The weather is improving. Temperatures not feeling comfortable yet but we're getting there. The sun was optimistic today. Attractive light to make some pictures of the Westerchurch in Amsterdam.

Who doesn't want such a cute lipbalmcontainer. It was a stumbling upon affair. This container, from Gal, Madrid, comes in several appealing colours and is for sail in Spain.
